JUNE 2024

5 June World Environment Day. Awesome attendance and participation. 28 schools and 700 plus students (9am - 2.30pm)

One Ocean, One Climate, One Future

World Ocean Day, Youth Advisory Council members joined CollaborOCEANS Founder Timothy Johnston in delivering this dynamic ‘peer-to-peer’ Carnival Ocean Workshop at Luna Park, Sydney. In attendance was Olympic Diver Sam Fricker, Kal Glanznig and myself. We all had an impressive personal story of conservation that showed young people that they can make an impact whilst still at school and beyond.

Speakers included Bodhi Patil UN Solutionist, Global youth ‘Thought Leader’, Craig Parry, Global Creative and Melati Wijsen, Global Changemaker.

On the Event Program, I led the session on the Power of Plastic Solutions (Pillar 2).

Night at the Zoo

Such a blast! As the Australian rep on the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council I was the host for “Night at the Zoo” at Taronga Zoo on the 8 June. (4.30 pm to 9.30 pm). It was the flagship under 18 event with over 250 young people registering for the event.

The night provided access and connectivity for youth to explore their senses to immerse themselves as changemakers for the ocean. The Taronga Zoo’s Institute of Science and Learning transformed into an interactive maze and kaleidoscope of activities, creative eco workshops, with a special screening of the film ‘Rising Up” produced by Kal Glanznig and interactive installations. Received tons of positive feedback.

“I feel motivated and energised after Night at the Zoo to learn more about the ocean space. The music, dancing, and night zoo tours were fun. It was an excellent event, and the catering and prizes were an unexpected treat!” Grace Year 7 Roseville College (Night at the Zoo attendee).
