OCT 2023
16 October: YOUTH OCEAN CARNIVAL 2nd workshop comes to St John's College Dubbo. How exciting to be part of a first of its kind one day workshop with 300 Year 10 students of the college. The theme is “Be Kind to the Environment.”
The central objectives of the program are:
Educate and Strengthen Awareness
Promote Ocean and Climate Literacy
Foster Sustainability Projects
Inspire Through Role Models
The workshops align with the United Nations 30×30 Goals, which aim to protect 30% of all land and ocean by 2030.
Climate Change Conference
On the weekend of 21/22 October I had the opportunity to attend a Climate Change conference, the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY23) held at the UNICEF head office in Sydney. It was the second LCOY to be held in Australia.
There were stimulated discussions on climate adaptation vs mitigation, climate justice, and First Nations perspectives. The main aim of the conference was to get Youth’s perspective on the National Statements and the broad topics which are then shared with the Australian government and the COP28 Youth Statement. So happy I could contribute.
Sustainable Living Weekend
Saturday 28 October Seaside Scavenge and Sustainability Fair @ Balmoral Reserve Mosman Waste was reimagined and a beach clean up. Litter collected was exchanged for tokens to be used for shopping at the pop up second hand store.
Sunday 29 October: Living Futures Sustainability Festival @ The Coal Loader Centre, Waverton. At the Planet Ark stall I was able to inspire current generations to recycle their waste in sustainable ways.
